Message from the Secretary General for the Aegean and Island Policy, Manolis Koutoulakis:
“For the past 23 years, this official event of the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy, in collaboration with the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, has been crossing the Aegean Sea, uniting people, cultures, and waters. This year, from August 23 to August 30, 2025, the “AEGEAN REGATTA” sets sail on a journey brimming with memories, history, art, and flavors. Departing from Myrina on the island of Limnos—a place renowned for its distinguished wines, fine cheeses, and the tradition of the first parliamentary body—it continues on to the historically significant Agios Efstratios, and then to Plomari on Lesvos, the birthplace of aromatic ouzo. There, visitors can also admire the town’s distinctive architecture and explore its long-standing wooden boatbuilding tradition, a testament to the local maritime heritage. Finally, our voyage concludes in the island’s bustling and radiant capital, Mytilene.
On this maritime journey, we will visit places of exile that preserved the flame of hope, as well as islands that gave rise to illustrious creators like Odysseas Elytis, the poet of Aegean light, and Teriade (Stratis Eleftheriadis), the visionary of art who supported leading painters and placed Greece on the map of the global artistic avant-garde. At each stop, the echoes of ancient civilizations, the sounds of traditional music, and the aromas of local gastronomy will offer sailors an unforgettable experience.
We embrace the sea breeze, the brilliant blue of the Aegean, and the warm hospitality of the island communities that welcome us with enthusiasm. The “AEGEAN REGATTA” is not merely an international sailing race; it is a voyage through the waves of history and spiritual heritage, an ode to sportsmanship, friendship, and exploration.
We invite you to share in this spirit of seamanship and adventure, traveling through places where the freedom of the open sea converges with vibrant tradition, unique local products, and the tastes and aromas of Aegean cuisine. From the wine and cheeses of Limnos to the ouzo of Plomari and its notable architecture and wooden boatbuilding legacy, every port tells a unique story of the Aegean.”
The Aegean Regatta 2025 is organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, in cooperation with the Offshore Racing Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation and the clubs: ASIATH Rhodes, LOIATH Mytilene, Nautical Club of Samos, Nautical Club of Chios, PEKEV Chios, with the 2025 coordinating club being the Nautical Club of Mytilene.
