Τhe Aegean Regatta 2023 is getting in the final stray and the sail boats are fighting for the first place. The final race from Oinousses to Kardamyla will decide the winners.

The biggest “battle” takes place in the Offshore Performance category where the boats Baximus and Αnatelousa Afroditi are tied for first place. In the ORC Sport category, Meliploe has taken a serious lead.

In a very beautiful event, on Friday night in Oinousses, the prizes were awarded for the 3rd sailing race, the Kardamyla – Oinousses leg.

On Thursday evening, the award ceremony for the 2nd race was held in the beautiful Kardamyla. It followed by the exchange of commemorative gifts between the Municipality of Chios, the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation and the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy. The Offshore Committee President Erifyli Vardaki thanked the Mayor of Chios for the warm reception and hospitality.

The Aegean Regatta 2023 is organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, in co-operation with the Hellenic Sailing Federation / Offshore Committee.

The organization of the Aegean Regatta 2023 is coordinated by PEKE of Vrontadow and the co-organizing clubs are: A.S.I.A.Th. RHODES, Sailing Club of Mytilene, L.O.I.A.TH. Mytilini, N.C. Chios, N.C. Samos, N.C. Kardamylon.

With the award ceremony on Tuesday night fell the curtain of the first leg of the Aegean Regatta 2023 from Molyvos, Mytilene, to Psara.

The first race was exciting as the strong northerly winds push the boats to cover the 65 nautical mile distance fast enough and reach the island, from Monday afternoon onwards.

The French boat LIBERTE entered first in the port of Psara,  but with the time correction, the first place in the ORC Performance category went to the boat ERYTOS II, skippered by Kostas Manthos. In ORC Sport, first place for the boat MELIPLOE from Volos with the skipper Thanasis Piniaris.

The inhabitans of Psara warmly welcomed the sailors of the regatta and all the cultural events  were a great success, with the screening of the documentary “THE JOURNEY TO THE GLORY OF PSARA”, demonstatrion of traditional dances, tasting of local products and a live concert by the singer Gianna Fafaliou.

“It is with great joy that we welcome to Psara great sailors who sail the blue waters of the Northern Aegean and offer a spectacle of an international level. Our hospitable island welcomes back the “Aegean Regatta”, a well-known institution for the nautical life of Greece. Αll the residents have given their best to ensure that the skippers and crews enjoy the best reception and live strong experiences in the historic and heroic island of Psara”, said the Mayor of Heroic Island of Psara Konstantinos Vratsanos.

On Wednesday morning, the 49 sail boats of the Aegean Regatta started the second race from Psara to Kardamyla in Chios, a distance of about 30 nautical miles.

The 49 boats of the Aegean Regatta 2023 have arrived in Kardamyla, Chios, continuing their beautiful journey in the Northeast Aegean.

Strong northwesterly winds reaching sometimes the 5 beaufort helped the sailors to deploy their seamanship and cover the 30 nautical miles from Psara to Kardamyla quite fast.

After the conclusion of the 2nd race, in the ORC Performance category the ANATELOUSA AFRODITI boat of Giorgos Avgerinos from Thessaloniki took the lead with one first and one third place and in the ORC Sport category the MELIPLOE of Thanasis Piniaris from Volos has the lead with two first places!

On Friday morning, the 49 boats of the Aegean Regatta will travel from Kardamyla to Oinousses for the third leg of the regatta.

The Aegean Regatta 2023 is organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, in co-operation with the Hellenic Sailing Federation / Offshore Committee.

The Aegean Regatta starts its journey for 22nd year with the participation of 49 boats, sailing from Molyvos, Mytilene, on Monday morning , heading to Psara, in a distance of 65 nautical miles.

On Sunday evening, the Opening Ceremony of the “Aegean Regatta” took place in Molyvos with the presence of the 500 sailors participating in the regatta

The Aegean Regatta 2023 International Sailing Race was opened by the Secretary General of the Aegean and Islands Policy Mr. Manolis Koutoulakis.

The President of the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, Ms. Erifuli Vardakis and the Mayor of Western Lesvos, Taxiarchis Verros were also addressed to the sailors.

Mr. Koutoulakis said about the race: “The Aegean Regatta opens its sails again this year, for a 22nd time and the version of each year is better than the previous one. When it started, back in 2001, it was one of the first regattas of that kind in the Aegean Sea. We are very happy because each year participation of sailors grows and this year we have also many sailors from abroad. All these people who participate in the regatta every year are also the ambassadors of the Aegean Sea islands. In addition to the competitive part, the crews will visit and live the experience of the islands that host them. It will be a great week and in cooperation with the local authorities we have prepared the infrastructure as well as a very rich cultural program”.

Before the Opening Ceremony, the skippers’ meeting was held and the Race Committee Manager Mr. Yannis Kleidonas, in the presence of Mr. Koutoulakis and Ms. Vardakis, gave all the necessary information to the crews of the sailing boats.

The Aegean Regatta 2023 which is organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, in co-operation with the Hellenic Sailing Federation / Offshore Committee started from Molivos and the sailors will travel to the islands of Psara, Chios, Oinousses and back to Chios for the closing ceremony, on the 26th of August.
