Dear Crew Members and Participants of the Aegean Regatta 2024,

On behalf of the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy and the Organizing Committee of the 23rd International Open Sea Sailing Races of the Aegean “AEGEAN REGATTA 2024,” I would like to thank you for your valuable participation and your support for the historic institution of our Aegean. Your presence strengthens nautical sports and the love for the sea that unites our societies in Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Turkey, Italy, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Norway.

The sudden loss of the President of the Open Sea Committee and Vice President of the Organizing Committee of the AEGEAN REGATTA filled us with sorrow. However, continuing with strength and implementing a joint decision we had made with Erifyli Vardaki, we wish to further highlight the power of research and continuous renewal of sailing through educational programs and the evaluation of the impact of the races on the islands – stations and the local communities.

In this spirit, we are collaborating with the Department of Tourism Studies at the University of Piraeus to conduct RESEARCH aimed at assessing/evaluating the experience, as well as the contribution to the small island communities we visit. Our goal, through quantitative and qualitative research, is to calculate the impact and effectiveness of the organization, which in the end will help us demonstrate that small but significant movements – initiatives – organizations have added value for the participants, as well as our islanders who also become members of our nautical family for a while.

We warmly invite you to dedicate some of your precious time to complete the questionnaire and contribute to our collective effort. Your opinions are crucial for us and will be used for the further development of the Aegean Regatta Races.

The sailing boats Baximus skippered by Thanasis Baxevanis from the club “Omilos Filon Thalassis” and Astrapi with the skipper Vassilis Kapitanidis from the Nautical Club of Thessaloniki triumphed respectively in the ORC Performance and ORC Sport categories of the Aegean Regatta 2024.

The final act of the international sailing race organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy with the co-operation of the Hellenic Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation was played in Rhodes with the last coastal sailing races.

In the ORC Performance category it became the absolute thriller. The results of the two final races gave the boats Vaximus, Vorras and Sugar 12 points each. However the sailing boat of Thanasis Baxevanis with better results in the legs of the regatta, celebrated the victory!

In the ORC Sport category, the great stability of Astrapi gave the first place in the sailing boat of Vasilis Kapitanidis, leaving behind Meliploe and Mousmoulo.

The Closing Ceremony took place in Rhodes Marina with the awarding of prizes to the winners and the President of the Hellenic Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation Erifilli Vardaki thanking those who helped in the excellent organization of the regatta. “I want to thank the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy, and namely the General Secretary Manolis Koutoulakis for co-organizing the Aegean Regatta. Also the Region of the South Aegean for the financial support, the Port Authority of Rhodes, the Municipalities of the islands that Aegean Regatta had a stopover and the co-organizers Nautical Clubs who contributed to the success of the regatta. Also, the “Maria Tsakos” Public Benefit Foundation for providing the boat Mania that hosted the members of the committees and of course all the people of the race committee who are volunteers and offered their excellent services. Finally, a big thank you to the crews that participated in Aegean Regatta and I want to invite all the sailors to the next year’s regatta, for a new exciting trip to the Aegean Sea”, said Ms. Vardaki.

The sailing clubs of the Aegean islands participate and assist in the organization of the Aegean Regatta, are the Mytilene Sailing Club, LOIATH, PEKEV, Chios Sailing Club, and Samos Sailing Club, with the coordinating club for 2024 being ASIATH  Rhodes.

The 4th leg of the Aegean Regatta from Halki to Rhodes, a distance of 33 nautical miles, was full of emotions and great feelings.

At the start of the day, north-westerly winds reaching 12 knots in places, helped the crews to test their skills and the boats’ limits. However, a drop in the wind during the day caused delays in the finish.

In the ORC Performance category, the sailing boat Baximus of Thanasis Baxevanis has a lead for the victory, following the first place in the 4^th leg.

 In the ORC Sport category, the three boats from Rhodes, Panormitis, Mousmoulo and Kalimera, knowing well the waters close to the island, dominated the 4th leg.

The winners of the Aegean Regatta 2024 will be decided in the final coastal races on Saturday morning.

The 53 boats participating in the Aegean Regatta 2024, the international sailing race organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, in co-operation with the Hellenic Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, arrived in picturesque Halki.

The northerly wind helped the crews to show their seamanship and sail from Tilos to Halki quite quickly, completing the third leg of the regatta.

The competition is strong in both categories, ORC Performance and ORC Sport, the margins are small, and the race winners are expected to be clarified in the last two legs of Rhodes.

The Aegean Regatta 2024 will travel on Friday morning from Halki for Rhodes and on Saturday there will be coastal races at Rhodes.

The sailing clubs of the Aegean islands participate and assist in the organization of Aegean Regatta 2024, are the Mytilene Sailing Club, LOIATH, PEKEV, Chios Sailing Club, and Samos Sailing Club, with the coordinating club for 2024 being ASIATH  Rhodes.

Tilos opened its arms to welcome the sailing boats participating in the Aegean Regatta, the international sailing race that is being held for the 23rd time in the blue waters of the Aegean Sea.

On the morning of Wednesday, August 21, the boats departed from Nisyros and with the help of the westerly winds that in some places reached the 12-15 knots, they arrived in Tilos, completing the second leg of the regatta.

There was a great battle in the ORC Performance category with the first five boats after the time correction having differences within four minutes and eventually the Vorras boat taking the win.

The prize ceremony to the winners of the 2nd sailing race took place in the evening of the same day at Livadia of Tilos and on Thursday morning the sailing boats will set sail for Halki, the third stop of the Aegean Regatta.
